Sunday School
C
lasses meet from 9: 30 - 10:30 am from mid September to mid May. The 7th - 8th graders meet with their teachers as part of the Confirmation program. The 9th - 12th graders meet to discuss current events and issues facing high school youth today; encouraging each other to dig deeper into what it means to be a young Christian in today's world.  We also hold several all church events during the year, including a Festival of the Palms on Palm Sunday and an End of Sunday School Celebration.

Wednesday Night STEPS

From mid September to mid May we offer an opportunity for families to gather for mid week activities. Dinner is offered at 5:30 pm, followed by classes for all ages from 6:15 - 7 pm. A family friendly, contemporary worship with a band, communion and a message to help in everyday life, ends the evening. (The worship changes pace during Advent and Lent.)

Holy C.O.W. (Confirmation on Wednesday): The 7th and 8th graders meet for Confirmation preparation

The Bullpen : The High School Youth gather for a variety of informal activities ranging from informal games to light discussion and Bible studies.

(See the Children and Adult pages for more classes...)

Confirmation

One of the great traditions of the Lutheran Church is the purposeful instruction of the fundamentals of Christian faith for young people straining towards adulthood (7th - 9th graders). Using Luther's Small Catechism as our template, our "confirmands" meet as a group with pastors, teachers and mentors to learn about the Bible and fundamental Christian beliefs and practices. Confirmands meet on Wednesday nights at 6:15 pm during STEPS (see above) and Sunday mornings at 9:30 am, with a week at Confirmation Camp at Mt. Cross in the Santa Cruz Mountains to top it off! Our confirmation program provides real faith - building opportunities at this critical stage in life (the early teen years).

Jon Dressler
Youth Ministry Director

I have been the youth director at Advent Lutheran Church since September 2007. I graduated from California Lutheran University in 2002 and I have been teaching music and other subjects in private schools to 4th -12th grade students for the past 5 years. I have been attending Advent for 5 years and I have mostly been involved in the Praise Band, "A Wing and a Prayer." I have a beautiful wife, Jennie, of 4 years; 2 small children: Jacob age 3 and Kaiya age 6 months. We enjoy going to Advent and look forward to many years of service here.
