ADVENT LUTHERAN CHURCH
I came to Sacramento and Advent in 1986 in what was my last assignment in a 24-year Air Force Career. My wife Barbara and I joined the choir and two years later, I "temporarily" became its director. However, I was no stranger to directing choirs, beginning with directing a men's chorus as a student at St Olaf College and continuing throughout my Air Force travels. As I enter my 24th year, I guess Advent liked what I was doing. With Advent's growth, the position was expanded into that of Music Director. While it has many facets, I believe the job of the Music Director is actually very simple - facilitate the Song of the Church.
As secretary, I consider it a privilege to be part of Advent's collective efforts to spread God's message of peace and love to others. Over the last 20 years I have utilized my Accounting/Business degree while gaining extensive office experience and skills through various employment.
Being a PK (preacher's kid) means that there wasn't EVER a time growing up when I wasn't part of a Lutheran church. Looking back, I can recall 11 years of piano lessons (6 different teachers), 5 years of organ lessons (2 different teachers), rehearsing and performing with school choirs and musicals, church senior and junior choirs, soloists, 3 different Lutheran organist positions, numerous weddings and funerals and many, many substitute organist positions. For those keeping score, I've been playing church services for over 20 years. Ouch, already?!! With all that experience, I just wish that I could carry on my end of a conversation while I play! Even though my education and day job is in math, I make time to practice new and old music at home. My hope is that when you hear the music I play, it touches your heart, mind and spirit as it does for me.
